Future Sports Fan?
Libby tried her hardest to watch any and all playoff football that was on, she even predicted that the Steelers would take it all. In fact, during the super bowl, she did all she could to watch the game.

She threw a fit when we would catch her looking at the t.v. and turn her away. The weekend of the Daytona 500 she tried her hardest to watch the race. She didn't have a fit when we turned her away from the screen, but I think that had to do with the fact that she doesn't care for Tony Stewart. That's my girl! She even tried to watch the race this past weekend. We didn't let her and if she grows up to be a sports fan, I'll apologize to her then.

AAAARRGGHHH
Libby is teething.

I'm banging my head against the wall because it feels oh-so-good when I stop.

A Rather Disjointed Update
Tuesday afternoon before we left for Nashville, I finally found the rocker we wanted for Libby. On sale, 25 bucks. Fabulous. She loves it, we even took it with us.

Ben's appointment Wednesday went as well as could be expected. After reviewing the MRI films and a fresh set of X rays, and a fair amount of poking and prodding, the doctors at Vanderbilt pronounced his tumor benign. The cartilage cap thickness standard for malignancy is 2 cm, and Ben's was only about a millimeter. His pelvic films showed no other tumors, so we were in tall cotton, for about 30 seconds maybe.

As soon as the discussion of Ben was over, the senior Dr. brought up the issue of heredity and the possibility of Libby having this same condition. I have to call her pediatrician the first of the week for her to have a thorough physical exam, and she'll have to be monitored regularly, at least through her early childhood, when these most often occur. Didja hear that noise? That was the sound of our bubble bursting. I can't decide if I want to laugh because Ben is fine, or cry because Libby may not be. More on this later, when we've had time to process it all.

Thursday my mother and I took Libby grocery shopping, hitting sales at three different stores. The first store filled her with wide-eyed wonderment, the second left her slightly bored, and by the time we were in the checkout line at the third she was in full-on afternoon fuss. But our pantry is now well stocked, so fine by me.

After several days of being schlepped around in the carseat, Friday brought a whole day of play. Tummytime, chatter, feet nibbling, bouncy seat, swing, toy exploration, you name it, she did it. For hours. Nap free. You can guess where this is going. By late evening she was one great big ball of nerves, and collapsed in a heap at nine thirty, without so much as another peep until the next morning.

Saturdays are grandparent days, and Libby spends the afternoon with my parents so that they can have some one on one time with her, which lets us get some work done around the house (baby + vacuum = bad). She had a good evening, and finished out the day having a total of 32 ounces of milk for the day, not bad when you consider that a little over a week ago she was still in her hunger strike and might have had 24 ounces on a good day.

It's a funny little Libby-centric universe we live in here, and most of the time we don't even realize it, but she is our focus. We mark time by counting the hours since her last feeding and how many ounces, we remind each other of days by saying "Remember when Libby did X?" I suppose some of this is to be expected, since she is three months old, and our only one. Things will change eventually I'm sure, either with a new addition to our family, or with Libby becoming more independent, but until then, what a lovely calendar.

I probably shouldn't, but...

I'll admit it. I'm a big, sappy mess, and it's all Libby's fault. Last night we were listening to some music and dancing when "Tough Little Boys" by Gary Allan came on. It was the first time I had heard the song since before Libby was born. All I could do was hug her to me and try not to cry. I know she hasn't started school or started walking yet, but the feeling is there. I see her smile at me and my heart just melts.

When I got home from work she was tired and fussy, so I put her down for a nap. She wouldn't go to sleep until she got a handful of my shirt and my hand on her stomach. I never knew I could love someone the way I love her. I have never felt something so strongly or so deeply. Being Libby's dad is my greatest accomplishment to date.

I used to like snow....
but then I moved to a place where it actually snows more than an inch or two every other year.

I grew up in the deep south and we hardly ever got any snow. On the rare occasions when it did snow, it wasn't more than an inch and a half at best. We had about two inches here saturday night. Now two inches wasn't bad, but the dead battery in Tarah's car was.

When I went out to crank the car Sunday morning, it wouldn't even click. The cold killed the battery, and cracked the windshield for good measure. I had to let the car roll down the driveway, which was fun with no power steering and no power brakes, so I could get the truck close enough to jumpstart the car. After getting the car started and warmed up, it was off to church we went.

We stayed for sunday school and Libby was the belle of the ball. Everyone thinks she is so cute and so well behaved. I have to say I agree. Libby is wonderful.

Back on subject, snow.
It didn't snow most of the day yesterday, until last night. I had to clean about three inches of snow off the truck this morning. On the way to do this, I manged to knock a branch full of that evil white powder down the back of my neck. Just let me say that nothing will wake you up at 4:30 a.m. like a collar full of snow. After that brisk wake-me-up, I headed off to discover that none of the roads I had to travel to get to work had been salted. After an exciting game of "Hey, Where'd The Road Go?", in which I managed to guess right 95% of the time, I made it there in one piece.

Tarah's laughing at me, she thinks I'm overreacting. She says she can still find her golf ball.

TGIF
Its been a semi-eventful week, and for you, constant reader, who has followed us here from our previous site, an update:

Libby's hunger strike finally ended late Tuesday night. She was an angel when we left her with a sitter to attend a Valentine's banquet sponsored by our church, and even ate better than expected while we were gone. We picked her up around nine, and by the time we got her home she was starving and somehow managed to suck down a full eight ounces.

Wednesday Ben had his MRI, and we should be able to call for the films early Monday. His appointment with the oncologist in Nashville has been confirmed for next Wednesday, and we expect to leave late Tuesday afternoon so as to not put too much strain on ourselves and Libby.

Today we decided that we wanted to buy the Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker for Libby. We had seen it a few weeks ago when we bought her swing, chose not to buy it, but have talked about it ever since. I thought it might be better to wait a bit, since here lately it seems like our interior decor is done by Fisher-Price. After much debate, She. Has. To. Have. It. We spent the early evening hours checking both our local Wal-Marts, one was sold out, the other apparently doesn't even stock it, so back to square one. On Monday Ben will be traveling out of the area, into a whole new pool of WallyWorlds, and the search will begin anew.

Dad, aka Captain Obvious
Dad: "We made a baby."

Mom: "Yeah, you noticed that?"

Dad: "Well, I kept seeing her around, so I made some inquiries."
